The Water Crisis: A Silent Threat
In many rural sectors of Kakiri, safe drinking water is a rare luxury. Women and young children are tasked with walking up to 5 kilometers daily to collect muddy water from shared open streams.
This shared water is stagnant and highly contaminated with parasites, leading to extreme incidences of typhoid, cholera, dysentery, and chronic diarrhea. Furthermore, the hours spent walking to collect water steal precious classroom time from children.
Our Community Water Program targets this directly. By constructing permanent deep boreholes in local village centers, we provide instant, clean water within seconds. This has successfully slashed water-borne child mortality by over 80% where deployed.
How We Secure Long-Term Water
Infrastructure Development
We hire hydro-geological specialists to drill deep-water boreholes (60+ meters), repair existing wells, develop spring and rainwater catchments, and build storage and filtration systems.
Community Engagement
We train 6-8 local community members in pump repair and maintenance, and establish water and sanitation committees to oversee every improvement long after we've moved on.
Education & Awareness
We build household latrines and run hygiene education programs for children and adults, teaching proper hand and face washing to prevent hand-to-mouth disease contamination.
Sustainable Management
We promote integrated water resources management at the local level, focused on maintaining both the quantity and the quality of drinking water for the long term.
Immediate Community Relief
Every borehole drilled provides an average of 12,000 liters of safe water daily. This covers drinking, washing, and sanitizing for over 150 households, including local clinics and elementary schools.
