Clean Water Restored to Kakiri Community

For years, the residents of Kakiri had to trek over 4 kilometers daily to fetch dirty, stagnant water from open spring wells. This water was shared with livestock, leading to severe outbreaks of typhoid, cholera, and diarrheal diseases that disproportionately affected young children.

In March 2026, with the generous contributions of our sponsorship partners, the Donatella Foundation engineering team drilled a new 60-meter borehole. We also established a local Water Maintenance Committee, training 6 community members to maintain the pump long-term.

Today, clean, safe drinking water is accessible directly inside the village center. Children no longer miss school due to illnesses or long treks, and the health and vitality of the entire community has been transformed.
